Microsoft releases preview of AI-powered Windows Copilot, aiming to change how people use PCs
Microsoft has been showing off how they want to add AI to an upcoming Windows release. Windows Copilot is a chat-based sidebar that can open up and interact with AI just like it does within Bing. The only notable difference is the ability to control your machine with the AI by changing settings and simply asking the AI to perform various actions.
While this is just a tour of what they are playing around with, I expect it to improve before it’s released and have much deeper integrations.
My own personal take? This is the lowest form of seeing AI integrated into our everyday software. Throwing a chatbot into everything is a nearsighted approach to AI. It’s easy and will seem cool to everyone for a bit, but we have got to get past the chatbot interface into some real innovations.

OpenAI Disables Browse with Bing Temporarily
One of the limits of ChatGPT and many LLMs is that the data they access is limited to September 2021. Even with stuff that was within the timeframe, they couldn’t really tell you about the sources of the data. This is where the browse with Bing feature for ChatGPT Pro users came in handy until recently.
Last week OpenAI announced that they were disabling the feature while they worked through what appears to be a potential content scraping issue. If you search their docs for the feature, you will find a message explaining that it’s now disabled. For more information on how it all happened, Decrypt was among the first to mention the change.
